03. Prologue II
Ken: That's a terrible rain.
Omi: We haven't sold a single flower all day.
Youji: None of the pretty customers are coming.
Aya: There's one.
(The sound of a dog, whimpering)
Youji: Huh?
Ken: What's with him?
Omi: He looks hurt. See, one of his back legs.
Ken: Hey, you okay?
Youji: Cut it out, Ken, that dog's filthy.
Ken: Good boy, you're fine.
Omi: A canine customer to the Koneko No Sumu Ie.
Youji: Is it male or female?
Ken: Hm? Hmmm. Male.
Youji: Of course.
Aya: Those wounds are serious.
Omi: That's true. It's going to take time to heal and it seems like he can't walk, he'll make it worse.
Ken: Looks like a stray.
Aya: A stray . . . Back then, I was like him.
04. Aya - True Life - *Note: This scene is set after Dramatic Collection III, when Ran is injured and Shion apparently killed . . . before Ran joins Weiß and becomes Aya. Manx is called Erika here.
Ran is badly wounded and running away from Erika and other members of Kritiker who are trying to bring him back to the hospital. One of them spots him but he runs out into traffic, nearly getting struck. He seems to lose them then. Ran rants to himself about Erika refusing to let him join the special team Kritiker is forming because she says he needs to polish his skills more. He recalls seeing Shion die. "Shion, Kuriyori, Tsubaki, Kikyou . . . I'm the only one who knows about you. I'm supposed to leave it up to the special Tokyo team? Wait for me. I'll do it myself -" Ran collapses
into the rainy street. "I'll get revenge . . . for all of you . . . by myself." He can't seem to get up. "It's useless. The wounds have totally opened up." He weeps that, just like in Sendai, he can't do anything. "What am I doing?" He passes out.
He's woken by a dog and an elderly woman. She's calling the dog, Chiro. She's surprised that the reason the dog won't come is that there's someone there. She calls Ran "Junichirou" and is ecstatic to see him; she starts calling her husband.
Ran wakes again, hearing a piano playing. The woman realizes he's awake and comes to tend him, calling him Junichirou. He asks where he is, and she laughs, telling him to rest easy, that she's glad he's awake and now he's home. Ran is surprised by this. She starts tending him, asking him if he's hungry. He asks for water. She gives him
some, fretting over him. She's very hurt when he asks who she is, scolding him for not remembering his own mother. He says all he can remember is falling rain, then a dog. She explains that it's Chiro, her guard dog. She goes to tell her husband that Junichirou is awake.
The husband comes in and looks at Ran's wounds. He explains that his wife brought him here because she has him confused with their late son, Junichirou. He says that he should have called an ambulance but he knew these weren't ordinary wounds, so calling an ambulance would cause Ran worse trouble. Ran asks if he understands, and the man
says he knows they're gunshot wounds, he's seen them many times. Ran starts to speak but is told he doesn't have to explain. He says this is an honest house and he won't have any trouble started here. Ran starts to leave. The old man asks what he's doing and Ran says he doesn't want to interfere with their lives. Besides, he has places to go. When the old woman sees him out of bed she gets upset. The old man explains that "Junichirou" has work to do, and she's appalled that he'd have to work in this condition. Ran says that he is okay and thanks her for taking care of him; she complains at his formal tone. The old man tells her he's an adult now, she has to let him go. Ran apologizes and says he must go. She's upset, and encourages him to stay and at least listen to her play on the new piano her husband bought her. Ran tries to get out of it but the old man says that one song is fine, he can stay that long to
listen to her play especially for him.
She says it's the song she was playing when she met her husband and they tease each other about it. The old man asks if he finds the piano boring, and Ran comments that it's a long song. The old man starts to talk about his past. Like Ran, he was in a hurry to get himself killed. 60 years ago his family died in a bomb explosion, leaving him alone and angry. He lived like he was in a hurry to die, but he did dangerous work in order to survive. He probably did it because he wanted to die quickly. The years passed and he calmed down and returned to a more normal life. But his dark past brought violence to him. But while listening to a particular song, he felt the music entering his soul deeply. It was the music played by the woman who became his wife. She even accepted him, a Yakuza. But he knew he couldn't love her as a Yakuza. So he told his boss that he was quitting. He was beaten badly. Others were sent to kill him, but he wouldn't kill them. He couldn't kill anyone while in love with this woman. But he told them if anyone interfered with them, he'd kill them, and they believed him. They left and started a new life in Tokyo. But that was just the beginning of the fight.
Ran asks if his old group chased him. At first, the woman played piano and the man became a butcher. Their first child, Junichirou, was born soon after. Ran asks if Junichirou had been shot. The man explains he started honest work and soon they had a daughter too, but Junichirou was killed in a car accident. Ran is startled. The old man asks if a car accident is boring. The man says that whether it's in war, in a fight, or through sickness, whatever the cause his son is dead. But there's no such thing in this world as a person who doesn't die, so he bears no grudges over it. Ran acknowledges this is true. The man says his daughter married and gave them grandchildren, so now they're back to the same lifestyle of just the two of them. Ran asks if this isn't a totally normal lifestyle, and didn't he say he'd fought before? The old man says he'd been in gunfights, serious fights. But as long as he'd been fighting those fights, he couldn't reach a true human life.
The song is over and the rain has stopped, so Ran is preparing to leave, thanking the old man for his care. The old man tries to give him money, but Ran refuses, saying he's going back to the hospital. Ran tells the old man to tell the old woman that her piano playing made him feel better. The old woman asks if he's gone, and the old man passes on the message that he liked her piano playing. As he leaves, Ran muses that it's impossible for him to live a normal life, and wonders if he'll ever have that "true human life."
05. Youji - Unfinished Sorrow - Asuka, complaining that Youji's late at this important time. She'll take on these arms dealers by herself. She's grabbed from behind and struggles. Youji tells her to stop, it's him. She whacks him and
complains that he's late, accusing him of being off flirting. He pours on the charm, complimenting her on her beauty. She isn't buying it, and he accuses her of being beautiful but an idiot for trying to sneak in on the arms dealers by herself. She's taken aback but recovers, saying it's only about three of them, easy for her to take. He explains that there are more men hiding, and if they came out it'd be over for her. And it isn't necessary to fight, anyways. She says he can't convince her that she shouldn't fight this major arms dealer. She asks what he intends to do,
considering how close their faces are. He says he'll convince a crazy woman with a kiss. She wonders if he can. He claims that his lips can do it - but is interrupted by a dog barking at them. This draws out the arms dealers, who see that it's just a stray dog. One of them is very nervous. They go back inside.
Asuka takes off after them because she's worried they'll get away, telling Youji to stay behind and keep watch. She kicks her way in and starts beating them up. Youji stays behind to watch, amused. The third one, Ito Shigenobu, is nervous and begging for mercy, saying he's doing it because his company is going bad and he's going to be fired, so he had no choice but to help these guys. One of the other dealers produces a gun but Youji takes it away, asking if it's one of their products. It's says it's a Smith & Wesson, but it's a badly made imitation and would break when fired. He scolds her that it was dangerous. She says she didn't need his help. One of the dealers fires at her and she falls. Youji runs to her side, checking her for wounds. She tells him to quit groping her. The man tries to shoot him but he's using a single-action, which Youji explains isn't going to work until he reloads. Ito begs for mercy, saying he has family. Youji says he will send Ito back to his family because he doesn't want Ito's wife to be hurt. Ito is grateful that Youji isn't here to kill him. Youji says he hates murderers, especially those who kill women. There's a gunshot and Asuka cries out. Youji cries her name and runs to her.
Youji's treating the dog for a gunshot wound. Asuka gives Youji a drink. Youji's complaining about saving the dog. Asuka says she puts up with his flirting so he can put up with this. Youji says it's a stray, if they leave it alone it'll just heal and live or die. Asuka says she can't let it die because it took a bullet for her. She says she'll take care of the dog, so it's fine. Youji says to do what she wants. Asuka's happy and welcomes the dog to his new home. Youji chokes and asks why she doesn't take it home. She says she's not allowed pets. Youji says she's not allowed pets here either, they can't have a dog in a private detectives' office. She says that it's half her office, so if he has any complaints to make, he can leave any time he wants. She leaves to go buy dog food, Youji yelling after her that it's half his office and he absolutely won't have a dog there.
Youji goes to the office the next morning and finds only the dog there. Youji tells the dog he doesn't have anything for it no matter how it barks at him. He notices the dog's chewed off his bandages. Asuka arrives to find Youji bathing the dog, complaining to himself about it, saying he likes cats better. And he hates males, human or dog, but this dog is different because he saved Asuka. He checks the dog's wounds and treats them, talking to the dog about Asuka, how she's crazy but beautiful when she shuts up. He hears a noise and tells whoever it is to come out where he can see them. He asks if the Browning bomb the bad guy has is his own product and if he honestly expects it to work. The bad guy asks if he wants to find out. Youji says he turned the dealers over to the police, he didn't kill them, so there's no reason to give him a hard time. The bad guy demands to know where the violent woman is. Youji says the crazy violent woman will show up shortly and punch him out, so he should look behind him. The bad guy laughs, skeptical. Asuka punches him out. Youji says he should believe what people tell him.
Youji demands to know where she was. She evades answering. He gets irritated, demanding she answer. She protests that she's supposed to be beautiful when she shuts up. He says it's too late for that to work on him and starts complaining about the dog she's been abandoning. She says when she went home to change clothes her apartment
was all torn apart. He asks if it was a robber, and she says she was the culprit. She cleaned the place up, got tired, and went to sleep. Youji starts to complain again but the dog whimpers, and Youji notices he has to put on new bandages. Asuka asks if she were to come home all beat up like this dog if Youji would take care of her like this. He stutters and says that there's no way, she always beats up her opponents. She agrees. Then she starts kicking the prone bad guy, yelling at him to get up and get out of her office while he yells for help.
Youji: "That time, why couldn't I tell you my real feelings? It was something I had to tell you clearly. Asuka, no matter how we see each other now, come back. I'll take care of you. I'll hold you with these hands. Asuka . . ."
06. Prologue III
Youji: Good, that's good enough. Don't bite your bandages.
Omi: Wow, you're got at that, Youji-kun. Have you kept a dog before?
Youji: Never.
Man: There it is.
Ken: What's with these guys?
Aya: It looks like this customer set a precedent.
Omi: Wel - welcome.
Woman: That - that dog!
Man: Give it to us!
Omi: Eh?
Aya: What's this, all of a sudden?
Man: Hurry up, give it to us.
Ken: What?
Man: Now, now, that dog bit a child.
Ken: A child?
Man: But it's not serious, it'll all heal in a week.
Omi: Oh, that's good.
Woman: What's good about it? A child was attacked!
Aya: You're sure there's no mistake that it's this dog?
Woman: It is not a mistake! It has a hurt leg.
Man: Hand it over to me! I'm taking it to the authorities.
Woman and Man: Give it to us!
Omi: What would happen to him?
Aya: He'll be killed.
Omi: But we just went to all that trouble to care for him.
Man: Hey, you boys, you had no choice but to protect the dog.
Ken: Protect . . . the dog?
07. Ken - Betrayer's Destiny - *Note: In this episode, Ken is speaking in a very atypical way, being very polite and respectful. The reason is revealed later, but it's one of those things lost in translation ^^*
Ryou is commenting how the rain won't quit, and Ken says that 35 inches can fall in a single month here. Ryou says there's not much point in staying in the shelter then, so they should go. Ryou slips and Ken tries to help him; Ryou says he doesn't need any help. He tells Ken all he has to do is be the guide, nothing else is necessary. Ken refers to Ryou as "Doushi" (comrade) and asks why Ryou is participating in the Chairman's group's work. Ken refers to some incidences with the police, and Ryou tells him not to investigate anything he hasn't been asked to.
They stop at Daisan Point to rest. Ryou says it should be 8 kilometres to Sawazoi. Ken says with all the rain Sawazoi might be dangerous. Ryou asks if there's a way to be picked up, and Ken says without knowing their goal he can't see how. So Ryou says they'll have to go on to Sawazoi. As they travel on, Ryou tells Ken about their way, how they have to be careful that there aren't undercover police infiltrating them. Ken protests that he isn't one, and Ryou says he knows, but this is the way of his group. Ryou talks about how he's been working with the Chairman for years. Ken asks why the Chairman is hiding in the mountains. Ryou says it's because they've been having trouble in Tokyo. The people of Tokyo are living in an illusion, Japan is a country that is decaying, that's why they're doing this.
The ground gives way and Ryou falls; Ken hangs on to him, but Ryou tells him to take his group passport and get to the Chairman. Ken refuses because this would mean Ryou falling to his death; he manages to pull Ryou to safety. Ryou notices Ken's leg is hurt. He's amused that Ken didn't notice it until he was told about it. Ken says he'll start back down now, and Ryou tells him to come with him. He'll show Ken their hideout because Ken saved his life and now he knows he can trust him. He tells Ken to call him by his name, without the title of Doushi, because he trusts him as a person, not a comrade. As they travel Ryou tells him how he gets explosives for their revolution and asks Ken why he joined them. Ken says he's lost everything, he doesn't understand difficult things, but he hated everything, so when he was invited by Doushi Masahiro he joined up. Ryou tells him to change his thinking, because they won't change things with hatred driving them.
They run into a group of armed soldiers - the Chairman's group. The Chairman comes out and apologizes for making Ryou come this far. Ryou introduces Ken. They detect a wire on Ryou, who's shocked by this. Ken says it has to be a trap, because Ryou would never betray them, and accuses a soldier of planting it. The Chairman says there's no way that could have happened. He says Ryou's been showing signs of being uneasy with their plans. Ryou denies he's opposed to it, though he feels sadness that it must be done. The Chairman apologizes and gives Ryou a gun, telling him to shoot Ken, because there's no other possible traitor. Ken tells Ryou to shoot him. Ryou apologizes, saying it's their way. Then he shoots at the soldiers and he and Ken bolt. The Chairman sends his soldiers after them.
They manage to lose their pursuers. Ryou's been shot. He says he can't be saved now, and apologizes for getting Ken involved, the Chairman has obviously gone bad. He wonders what he's been doing these past 20 years. Ken tells him that he was the one who planted the wire, that he was here to infiltrate them. Ryou is shocked that he's a spy and asks why he saved him then. Ken says it's obvious, it was to gain his trust, he was using Ryou, his trust and his friendship. Ryou asks if he's someone's dog and Ken says he is, and dogs don't have things like friendship. Ken calls Ryou an idiot and demands to know why he didn't shoot Ken. Ryou says it's because he believes in himself, and he couldn't betray his own feelings and shoot Ken who he had called a friend. He asks Ken if he could kill a friend. Ryou dies.
Ken tells Ryou that he'll show him, he can kill a friend.
08. Omi - Innocent Murder -
Omi going through a training exercise. Once he's done he comes out to be enthusiastically greeted by his dog, Kuro. Manx enters and congratulates him on completing it in 30.4 seconds. Omi's disappointed because he was trying for 30 seconds. Manx tells him he didn't miss a single shot and did it perfectly so he should be happy. Omi asks Kuro if he heard that, he got 100%. Manx comments on how big Kuro is getting. Omi agrees, saying that when he first came here Kuro was still a puppy. Manx says he's two weeks ahead of schedule in his training, so Persia will be pleased. Omi is excited about this.
Another exercise, being run by Persia this time. Omi finds himself up against a vicious dog. He realizes it's Kuro. Persia tells him to hurry up. Omi asks what's wrong with Kuro and Persia tells him Kuro has gone mad, he has to be put down. Kuro attacks Omi, who yells for him to stop but won't fight him. Persia tells Omi he's not a normal member of Weiß and asks what he'd do if another member turned on them. He tells Omi to kill Kuro. Omi, weeping, says he can't do that, he can't kill Kuro.
Manx bursts in on Persia and demands to know what he's doing, because Omi raised this dog and this is too cruel. Persia says she doesn't have to tell him because he was the one to give the dog to Omi. Manx realizes this was Persia's intention all along and wants to know why, because Omi is a kind boy. Persia says he can't let Omi stay a
kind boy to do the kind of things he'll be doing with Weiß.
The timer goes off. Manx is shocked when Omi comes in. Omi tells her not to worry, the blood on him isn't his. He says it's very sad what he had to do to Kuro because Kuro was suffering. Omi says because he's become part of Weiß he had to do it. Manx starts to cry and Omi asks what's wrong. She embraces him. He tells her she should be
happy because he completed Persia's mission.
09. Prologue IV
Aya: Omi.
Ken: Omi! Cut it out!
Youji: Hey, stop that!
Omi: Huh . . . what?
Ken: Don't you know what you were trying to do?
Omi: What I was trying to do?
Aya: You were trying to kill the dog.
Omi: Eh? I was? I was trying to kill the dog . . .
Man: Ah, excuse me . . .
Aya: It's nothing. Take the dog away.
Woman: Is it okay?
Aya: Hurry up and go.
They fight to drag the snarling dog away.
Man: Thank you.
Ken: I guess there's no way that dog isn't going to be killed.
Youji: Omi, are you okay?
Omi: Yeah. I feel like I've been daydreaming, and I don't remember clearly, but I was thinking kind of like 'if he has to die it should be my hand'.
Ken: Is that it. If he's going to be killed anyways it probably would have been better to do it before they did it.
Youji: Wouldn't it have been better if he'd had a long life?
Ken: In his case, I wonder.
Aya: To a stray dog in a night when the living is hard, a long life is probably the most painful thing.

11. Next Mission Weiß introduces the next mission, which will be set in Tsushima (? I'm not sure I heard that right) . . . the "Casablanca of the East", and will be about Aya's time in Kritiker. "Weiß Kreuz: Wish a Dream Collection 3 ~ Taiyou no Ran - The Orchid Under the Sun ~
Aya: "I await the meeting of destiny."
Greetings from Weiß:
Koyasu comments on this story, about a dog coming to the Koneko and asks how the listeners found it. Miki talks about how it's a return to the serious side of Weiß and he worries about how the listeners will find it. He says if people are enjoying the world of Weiß then he is very happy. Seki says he was very nervous to return to performing the serious role of Weiß. It was all he could do to stop his knees shaking. He says part of the cause is performing with others, and also it's because Koyasu is watching him intently from the control room. He asks what the listeners think (of his performance) and says they're just beginning so please continue to support Weiß. Koyasu is laughing and teasing Seki about it. Yuuki talks about how Omi has always been a kind character, taking care of others, so playing the role this time was heartbreaking and painful. He asks how everyone, watching and listening to Weiß, has found it.
